Binding
Binding wordt gebruikt om de randen van muziekinstrumenten netjes af te werken en te beschermen. Het geeft je instrument niet alleen een stijlvolle uitstraling, maar voorkomt ook dat randen beschadigen door stoten of vocht. Binding is verkrijgbaar in verschillende kleuren, maten en lagen (zoals enkelkleurig of meerlaagse ply binding).
Binding wordt meestal aangebracht op de randen van de body, maar komt ook regelmatig voor op de hals van een instrument. Meestal wordt hiervoor kunststof gebruikt, zoals ABS en CAB. Dit materiaal is goed vormbaar, stevig en zorgt voor een nette afwerking.

Hoe bevestig je binding?
Voor het bevestigen van kunststof guitar binding, zoals ABS, kun je het beste een sterke lijm gebruiken die goed hecht op zowel kunststof als hout. Een veelgebruikte optie is:
- CA-lijm (CyanoAcrylaatlijm): dit type secondelijm zorgt voor een snelle, sterke hechting van kunststof aan hout. Ideaal voor ervaren gebruikers die precies werken. Let wel op voor lijmdampen die een witte waas kunnen geven op de lak. Bekijk hier populaire GluBoost CA-lijm >>.
- Alternatief: speciale bindinglijmen of oplosmiddel-lijmen op basis van aceton of MEK kunnen ook worden gebruikt. Deze geven iets meer verwerkingstijd en zijn minder gevoelig voor dampvorming.
Gebruik tape tijdens het bevestigen
Tijdens het verlijmen is het belangrijk dat de binding stevig op zijn plaats blijft zitten, zeker bij rondingen of contouren. Hiervoor gebruik je het beste papieren schilderstape of luthierstape. Deze tape houdt de binding tijdelijk vast zonder de lak van het instrument te beschadigen.

Belangrijk
Het aanbrengen van binding vereist nauwkeurigheid, kennis van materialen en ervaring met verlijming. Heb je hier nog geen ervaring mee? Dan is het verstandig om dit werk te laten uitvoeren door een ervaren gitaarbouwer of reparateur. Zo voorkom je schade aan je instrument.
